How to talk to a teen about health without making her feel judged or broken.
Choose the right moment
Find a relaxed, private time — not after a meal, not in front of others, and never when emotions are already running high.
Lead with curiosity, not concern
"I've been thinking about how we could do more fun active things together" lands very differently than "I'm worried about your weight."
Use 'I' statements
"I care about you and want you to feel great" keeps the focus on your relationship rather than her body.
Listen more than you speak
Ask open questions and genuinely listen. Resist the urge to immediately offer solutions.
Affirm, don't fix
Often she just needs to feel heard. You don't have to solve everything in one conversation.
