Sleep is when your brain sorts out the day and your body repairs itself. It makes every other habit easier.
2 minute read. For teens and young women.
Try this tonight
Write a “brain dump” before bed — everything on your mind, on paper — so it isn’t spinning when your head hits the pillow.
Short sleep raises stress hormones and makes sugary foods harder to resist the next day. It also makes it harder to focus, manage emotions and recover from exercise. Get sleep right and everything else gets easier.
Aim for 8–10 hours
Teens need more sleep than adults. Work backwards from your wake-up time.
Keep the same times
Wake up and go to bed at roughly the same time every day — weekends too.
Screens off an hour before bed
Bright screens and endless feeds keep your brain alert. Charge your phone outside the bedroom if you can.
Make it cool, dark and quiet
A cooler, darker room helps you fall asleep and stay asleep.
Nap smart
A 20-minute nap can help. Long afternoon naps steal from your night.
